About Car Free America
Most vacation, retirement, and relocation guides assume that everyone drives. Now, there is a better place to get the information that you need to make your important life and vacation decisions when you don’t want to drive everywhere: www.carfreeamerica.com.
Car Free America’s reports and e-books focus on the needs of non-drivers and anyone who wants to drive less. Our 1st e-book, Car Free at the Beach, spotlights 20 beaches throughout the United States that you can enjoy without a car. There will be more special reports and e-books, plus a blog and newsletter where you can stay informed and communicate with other people who are looking for, or already enjoying, a life not focused on the automobile.
Car Free America plans to publish more special reports and e-books, plus a blog and newsletter where you can stay informed and communicate with other people who are looking for, or already enjoying, a life not focused on the automobile.
Since the 1980’s, I (Steve Atlas) have been promoting and exploring car-free living. I’ve joined several transit advocacy groups, and wrote a special report, “Now it’s safe to Take Your Hands off the Wheel” that showed why driving less makes sense for anyone—no matter where they live.
As I continue to research alternative lifestyles, where car ownership is unnecessary, I realize that there is little information available about where this can be accomplished.
CarFreeAmerica.com, and our companion website CarFreeAmerica.org, are designed to fill this gap.
We are pioneers in the field of car-free living. Our goal is to build a community of intelligent people who, like you and I, believe that car-dependency is destructive and harmful to the environment and our society. By sharing our challenges and success stories—including our tips for where to live, vacation, or retire without a car, we can provide the support that will encourage more people to reduce their car-dependency, and move toward a car-free lifestyle.
